How Seismic Rebuilt Marketo Measure Attribution Its Whole Revenue Team Trusts

Challenge
Seismic, the global leader in sales enablement, had Marketo Measure (Bizible) in place alongside Marketo Engage, Salesforce, and 6sense. The technology was never the problem. The problem was that attribution logic had drifted from how the business actually ran. Channel taxonomy was inconsistent across Marketo, Bizible, and Salesforce. Lifecycle stages and scoring rules no longer matched current business definitions. Custom opportunity-source logic lived alongside Bizible touchpoint data, and the two told different stories. The consequences showed up in every revenue conversation. Influence reporting was tied to opportunity contact roles, capturing only about 10% of marketing's real contribution to pipeline. Executives, marketing leaders, and practitioners each asked different questions of the same data, and the data could not answer them consistently. Marketing was undercounted, and nobody fully trusted the numbers.
Results
Attribution at Seismic went from a black box to a governed practice the whole revenue team can defend. The move to account-based attribution positions measured marketing influence to rise from roughly 10% to 30% or more of pipeline, a 3x improvement in credit captured. Every audience now gets the right answer from the same Bizible data.3x increase in marketing influence captured on pipeline, from ~10% to 30%+One full-path attribution model reflecting Seismic's real 180-day buying journeyOne channel taxonomy across Marketo, Bizible, and SalesforceEvery Bizible settings change governed by documented change managementAn in-house team coached to own Marketo Measure operations

The Solution
Seismic engaged The Pedowitz Group to rebuild its Marketo Measure foundation, starting with a full attribution and scoring audit: stakeholder interviews across marketing, sales, and operations, plus a deep review of how touchpoints flowed from Bizible into Salesforce, UTM capture, lifecycle definitions, and scoring models.
From the audit, TPG delivered four things:
- A custom full-path attribution model in Marketo Measure, capturing all activity from 180 days before sales acceptance through close, with attribution window policies tuned by channel
- A shift from contact-role-based to account-based attribution, so Bizible credits every touchpoint at the buying account, not just the contacts sales attached to the opportunity
- One standardized channel and subchannel taxonomy across Marketo, Bizible, and Salesforce, with documented online channel rules and UTM source mapping
- A three-altitude reporting framework on top of Bizible data: opportunity source for executives, multi-touch influence for marketing leadership, and campaign and acceleration views for practitioners
TPG then updated Bizible lifecycle stages to current business definitions, documented every settings change for governance, and ran a deskside coaching program so Seismic's team could operate Marketo Measure day to day without outside help.
